MARY CHILTON CHAPTER DAR
We are a lineage-based society that is organized on the basis that each of us has an ancestor who participated in or aided in the American Revolution. We are 180 members strong and continue to have women join in our missions of historic preservation, patriotism, and education.
Founded in 1915, the Mary Chilton Chapter DAR serves the largest city in our state, Sioux Falls, and the surrounding area.
The bequest of one of our founding members, Dorothy Day Davenport, enabled the creation of the Mary Chilton DAR Foundation. The Foundation is an entity separate from the Mary Chilton Chapter DAR, and is responsible for managing the funds left by Dorothy Day Davenport. We are fortunate to have a foundation that has helped us give over three million dollars in grants and scholarships since 1987.
The Chapter meets monthly and has a speaker who presents a program on topics that are interesting and helpful to our chapter in pursuing our mission. We have women of many different backgrounds and are extremely proud of the work we do in the Sioux Falls area.
We participate in the 4th of July parade, Constitution Week, Bells Across America, and Good Citizen and American History awards. We volunteer and aid in many projects that benefit our veterans. We honored Rosie the Riveters with a memorial garden at the Veterans Park in Sioux Falls. We also celebrated the 400th Anniversary of the Mayflower.
If you believe you may have a patriot of the American Revolution in your ancestry, contact us and our registrar will help you try and prove your patriot for membership in our patriotic organization.
