The Helpline Center of Sioux Falls has been selected to receive this year's annual Dorothy Day Davenport grant. The local nonprofit organization plans to use the $50,000 award to expand education about and accessibility to community services. Helpline Center University services are available at no cost to the public through the 211 and 988 phone numbers. Individuals staff the phone lines to identify and provide customized referrals one-on-one to callers and testers for resources that provide early intervention, reduce crisis escalation, and give access to mental health and basic needs support. Funds will support the design and printing of educational materials, including a new resource packet that Sioux Falls organizations can distribute directly to clients and employees. Funding would also support enhancement of the online version of Helpline Center University (helplinecenter.org), social media advertising, and other promotional efforts.

This project fulfills the intent of Dorothy Day Davenport to make Sioux Falls a “better and happier place in which to live.”
